Wheeling, West Virginia thrash veterans Altared States are back with a fresh dose of neck-snapping aggression as they officially unleash their brand-new EP Last Rites, released May 16, 2026. This latest offering is a powerful testament to the band’s prowess in the realms of Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal, and Thrash Metal, showcasing their relentless drive and commitment to the genre.
Built on razor-sharp riffs, pounding rhythms, and the kind of unapologetic energy that made thrash metal a worldwide movement in the first place, Last Rites delivers a relentless assault that proves Altared States are nowhere near slowing down. Originally formed in 1990 and revived in 2019 with a renewed mission, Altared States have spent the last several years carving out their return with nonstop momentum. They have released multiple records while bringing their high-energy live show to stages across the Northeast. Last Rites continues that evolution while staying firmly rooted in the classic thrash traditions that inspired the band from the start. “Last Rites is another step forward for us as musicians and songwriters,” says guitarist Mike Tronka. “We wanted this release to hit hard from beginning to end while still keeping the raw spirit that got us into thrash metal in the first place.”
