German post-rock band BRUECKEN released their third album Years That Answer on February 27, 2026, via Moment of Collapse Records.
For the first time since their 2017 EP, BRUECKEN reintroduce vocals into their sound: from the solitary voice of guitarist and singer Thorge Freidel on “periapsis” to the powerful choral finale “signs of spring,” featuring the Emden Kneipenchor. The band’s sonic evolution is further driven by the addition of Bernd Frikke (MMTH), whose synths and electronic textures expand BRUECKEN’s emotional and musical range.
Recorded across Berlin and Oldenburg, mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Refused), Years That Answer balances crushing heaviness with fragile, atmospheric depth. Moving confidently beyond genre conventions, BRUECKEN forge a distinct, immersive sound—one that doesn’t just ask questions, but demands to be felt.
In a world shaken by climate crisis, war, and rising authoritarianism, Years That Answer confronts a pressing, universal question: How do we hold on to hope? Inspired by Zora Neale Hurston’s line “There are years that ask questions, and years that answer,” BRUECKEN craft an album that turns instrumental post-rock into a resonant chamber for social reflection.
For the first time since their 2017 EP, the band reintroduces vocals—beginning with the solitary voice of guitarist and singer Thorge Freidel on “periapsis,” culminating in a powerful choral finale on “signs of spring,” featuring the Emden Kneipenchor. The result is a work that feels both introspective and forward-facing, a testament to a band unafraid to evolve.
A major catalyst for this new chapter is the addition of Bernd Frikke (MMTH), whose synths and electronic textures become a driving force in the band’s songwriting. This expanded sonic palette is matched by a high-end hybrid recording approach: drums captured by Jan Oberg at Hidden Planet Studio (Berlin), guitars and synths self-recorded and later shaped through expert reamping and mixing by Roland Wiegner at Tonmeisterei (Oldenburg). The album is mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Refused), delivering the weight and clarity the material demands.
