Czech progressive death metal band Mindwork return with Adrift, their first full-length album since Eterea (2012). Formed in 2007, the band built a reputation through albums that earned two Czech Anděl Award nominations before resurfacing in 2021 with the EP Cortex. Adrift marks the next chapter for the current line-up.
Conceived as a concept album about Alzheimer's disease, Adrift follows the gradual loss of memory, identity and perception. Across nine tracks, Mindwork combine progressive death metal with atmospheric passages while exploring the psychological effects of the disease. The album also includes a reinterpretation of Talk Talk's "The Party's Over".
Throughout their career, Mindwork have shared the stage with bands including Cynic, Nocturnus and Suffocation, and have appeared four times at Brutal Assault. Both Into The Swirl and Eterea were later released in the United States through DiveBomb Records.
BIO
Mindwork is a progressive death metal band from the Czech Republic formed in 2007. Since its inception, the band has sought to bridge technical musicianship, progressive composition and emotional depth, drawing inspiration from pioneering acts such as Cynic, Death and Opeth while gradually forging a distinctive artistic identity of its own.
The band's debut album, Into The Swirl (2009), introduced Mindwork's early vision, heavily influenced by the progressive and technical innovations of Cynic's landmark album Focus. The album quickly attracted attention within the Czech metal scene and earned a nomination for the Czech Anděl Awards in the Hard & Heavy category.
Rather than repeating themselves, Mindwork expanded their sonic palette on Eterea (2012), embracing more experimental songwriting, progressive rock influences and clean vocals. The album received another Anděl Award nomination and further established the band as one of the most ambitious progressive metal acts in the region.
Both Into The Swirl and Eterea later received dedicated releases for the American market through DiveBomb Records, introducing Mindwork to a broader international audience.
After a prolonged hiatus, the band resurfaced in 2021 with the EP Cortex, marking the beginning of a new chapter and presenting the lineup that remains intact today:
Martin Schuster – vocals, guitar
Jiří Rambousek – guitar
Dominik Vozobule – bass
Filip Kittnar – drums
Throughout their career, Mindwork have shared stages with influential acts including Cynic, Nocturnus and Suffocation, while appearing four times at Brutal Assault, one of Europe's premier extreme music festivals.

Their latest album, Adrift, represents the band's most ambitious artistic statement to date. Conceived as a thematic exploration of Alzheimer's disease, the album follows the gradual disintegration of memory, identity and perception through an emotionally immersive musical narrative. Combining progressive death metal intensity with atmospheric textures and cinematic songwriting, Adrift confronts one of humanity's most devastating neurological conditions while maintaining the technical sophistication that has defined Mindwork since the beginning.
The album also features a reinterpretation of Talk Talk's classic The Party's Over, reimagined through Mindwork's progressive metal lens.
With Adrift, Mindwork deliver a deeply personal work that stands at the intersection of progressive death metal, psychological storytelling and emotional resonance.
