DEAD NEANDERTHALS Announce New Album, 'Flesh Is Fragile' out Oct.2!

Dead Neanderthals features Otto Kokke (synthesizer) and René Aquarius (drums, vocals). The duo’s sound resists a clear-cut genre framework, drawing on jazz, metal, noise, and drone without being confined to any of them. Experimentation has remained central to the band’s extensive discography, and Flesh is Fragile is no exception. On their new full-length, Dead Neanderthals take their sound in a darker, heavier, and stranger direction.

“I’m always trying to get new and heavy sounds out of my synths and I think I've achieved a new level of ridiculousness here,” says Otto. “Who knew you can make electronics sound so hideously weird and crushing if you play them way too loud through an amp?”

The album’s vocal approach was equally crucial to shaping its soundscape. “This is the super heavy and very dense album I've wanted to make for a long time,” shares René. “A key ingredient of the heaviness is the unhinged vocal performance. I really pushed myself and experimented with my vocal style for this album, which has led to this monstrous type of screaming.”

Flesh is Fragile also marks a shift toward shorter compositions. “Making these shorter songs was also a fun new process for us; trying to keep everything stripped down and compact was a challenge, but I think we succeeded,” notes Otto. René adds: “I also think we've pushed ourselves to be as concise as we needed to be with the songs, which has led to a really nice album flow.”

The title Flesh is Fragile also seems fitting for music that leaves little distance between the listener and the duo’s extremes. “Six tracks in just over 30 minutes will reduce you to ashes,” claims the band. “This is Dead Neanderthals at its heaviest and most metallic.”
