Horrenda release their new single “Loudun, 1634”!

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Horrenda deliver a raw and atmospheric strain of black metal rooted in abrasion, tension and uncompromising intensity. 

 Following the band's recent lineup change, Horrenda revisit and rework one of their established tracks through a new arrangement built around some of the original stems; namely from Darragh “Outis” O’Connor and former longtime drummer Jason “Cruxx” K. Heafy. Mixed with fresh stems from the new lineup these create a new experience for longtime and new fans alike. The new recording offers an early preview of the forthcoming The Redrum Sessions: Volume II – Nostos, due later this year.

Released on 18 September 2026, “LOUDUN, 1634” descends into one of the most notorious episodes of religious hysteria and persecution in 17th-century France, using the events of Loudun to explore the dangers of mass hysteria, fanaticism and the abuse of power.

 Drawing from the events surrounding Urbain Grandier and the so-called possessions of Loudun, the track enters a world where accusations of sorcery, religious fervour, political power and public spectacle collide with devastating consequences.

 The song also takes direct inspiration from Ken Russell's controversial 1971 film The Devils, itself based on the Loudun case. Russell's film is renowned for its brutal portrayal of fanaticism, institutional violence and the collapse of reason under the weight of religious fervour.

 Rather than treating the Loudun case as simple occult horror, Horrenda turn the events into something darker: a portrait of fanaticism, accusation and human cruelty concealed beneath the language of devotion.

“LOUDUN, 1634” stands as a stark examination of what happens when belief becomes spectacle, accusation becomes truth, and power determines reality.
