Slaamaskin returns with a new EP "Endevendt" which has been released digitally, with a vinyl release to follow on April 11. The release is a collaboration between the band and A Production, and the vinyl release expands into an LP by adding a remastered version of the 2016 EP on the B-side.
Slaamaskin’s music sits in the overlap between ’90s metal and hardcore, with the push-and-pull that comes from a band built on different backgrounds. Their writing is direct and riff-led, but the intention is bigger than just volume. The band describe the songs as a reaction to the current state of the world, while still holding onto the idea of keeping the spirit alive. One single is planned ahead of release day - “Stridshaud” - and a new video is in production with Yorick Sabri Gontarek.
"Endevendt" is Slaamaskin’s fourth release, following "Trollveggen", which picked up strong reactions in the press (including 5/6 in Scream Magazine, 8.5/10 at Metalized, and 12/15 in Legacy). With this EP, the band keep the sound tight and physical, and put the focus back on impact; the kind that works just as well in headphones as it does in a packed room.
In the diverse and scenic landscapes of Norway, a unique musical ensemble, Slaamaskin, emerged, blending an array of sounds and styles into their distinctive brand of metal. The band's inception can be traced back to Ålesund, where Jan-Helge and Rolf first bonded over their shared love for thrash metal during their school days. Although their paths diverged during their secondary education and college years, this early connection laid the foundation for their future collaboration.
Meanwhile, in Bergen, Jan-Helge's journey continued as he met Kåre during their civil service. Their musical partnership flourished, leading to various collaborations, including their time in Artismight. At the same time, Kåre and Jostein from Tysnes were exploring their musical prowess in Ampera, a band with a progressive edge. These experiences were instrumental in shaping the members' musical identities, setting the stage for Slaamaskin's formation.
A significant turning point in the band's genesis occurred when Jan-Helge, working as a sound engineer, met Arvid, a member of The Greenland Whalefishers. This encounter would later be pivotal in defining Slaamaskin's trajectory. Initially known as “Slow Massive,” the group began its journey in the realm of doom metal. However, the ensemble evolved with the addition of Jostein and Arvid, and later, Rolf as the vocalist. This evolution brought a shift in their musical direction, transitioning to Norwegian lyrics and moving away from their doom metal origins. The change was marked by the band adopting a new name, Slaamaskin, signifying their new musical identity and direction.
The music of Slaamaskin is a harmonious blend of the diverse influences of its members. Arvid contributes his punk background, Rolf brings in elements of pop-metal, Kåre adds shades of prog-goth, Jostein infuses prog-death-metal, and Jan-Helge mixes in hardcore, thrash, and nu-metal. This amalgamation of styles is the result of collaborative jam sessions, where new ideas are woven into cohesive songs with meaningful lyrics. Despite their age, the members continuously seek new material and inspirations, keeping their sound fresh and dynamic.

Slaamaskin's reputation for electrifying live performances is well-established. Their concerts, especially in intimate venues like Fru Lundgreen in Trondheim, are known for creating a unique connection with the audience. These shows often begin with an air of curiosity and evolve into a deeply engaging and immersive experience, showcasing the band's energy and musical prowess.
The band's professional growth is highlighted by significant collaborations and relationships. Their first two EPs, recorded and partially produced by Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen at Conclave Studios and mastered by Tom Kvålsvoll at Kvalsonic Labs, underscore their commitment to quality and artistic expression. The professionalism extends to their music videos, crafted by Sven Nydal of Nydalfilm, which further demonstrate their artistic vision.
Slaamaskin stands as a remarkable example of how diverse influences and a shared passion for music can create a unique and compelling sound. Their story is not just about the music they create but also about the strong bond among its members, a bond forged through a shared love for metal and a relentless pursuit of musical exploration and expression.
