We would like to present you 'Dawns on Mental Highways', the new album by German psychedelic rock band The Citadel, which was released digitally on April 25th and is also available in physical format from May 15th via Subsound Records.
An unusual and kaleidoscopic album that draws inspiration from the experimental spirit of 1967 - fragile vocals that turn fierce, classic organ tones, acoustic fingerpicking gives way to heavy riffs and a rhythm section that keeps it all in restless motion.
'Dawns on Mental Highways' is the second studio album by German psychedelic rock band The Citadel. A curious and kaleidoscopic record that blends styles and influences with the experimental spirit of the bands that, around 1967, were forging new paths in the studio — and the title seems to perfectly reflect their approach, even if it leaves room for more than one interpretation.
There is a lot to hear: the singer has a voice that seems fragile, yet does not hesitate to shout her Dylanesque lyrics with anger when needed; the organ player drenches the songs in a classic acid sound; the guitar player moves effortlessly between acoustic fingerpicking and flute before exploding into heavy electric riffs; the bass player runs unusually syncopated lines, with tropical undertones; the drums follow every turn with ease, light or powerful as the moment demands.
A singular record, likely to disorient those unfamiliar with its roots. The Citadel believe it is time again to take a trip into psychedelic rock. Let it carry you away.
BIOGRAPHY
Formed in 2022 in the Nuremberg area (Germany), The Citadel released their debut album 'The Foundation Cycle' in 2024 via Subsound Records. 'Dawns on Mental Highways' (Subsound Records) is their second.
