Something unknown, something unforeseen, something unspeakable lives below – and it lives to destroy…”
- promotional text for the 1977 film, Shockwaves

You’ve lost count of the drinks and lost sight of the path you were walking. Your eyes won’t focus, but the world seems to be burning and there’s a voice speaking from the other side of the flames…telling you it’s time to die.

Hailing from Mechelen, Belgium and featuring one ex and one current member of doom legends Marche Funèbre, Witch Piss have been brewing their potent blend of dark, stoner metal since 2022. It’s a brew they call Mississippi Goat Worship and there’s witchcraft and venom lurking in the sediment that swirls in that pitch black elixir. A self-titled EP released in the spring of 2023 turned heads, as did brain melting live shows with the likes of Your Highness, Belzebong and The Obsessed – but now the story really begins, with the heady, heavy, hypnotic delights of debut full length album, The Devil Doesn’t Burn!

The gates of delirium open onto ‘Black Tongue Driven’, with its towering midnight riffs, a rhythm section like thunder and vocals with a rough, drunken drawl, shot through with menace. Grooves dig deep into the black earth, breaking through into the realms of the dead. There’s a loose, devil may care feel to the Witch Piss sound, but it’s bathed in sweat and the stench of possession and carrying something sinister in its back pocket. By the time ‘Bad Juju’ arrives through the pale grey light of dawn, with a half-forgotten night of madness trailing in its wake, you’re captured and committed; happy to let the rolling tide of guitars carry you away on riffs thick enough to bear the load. There’s a fierce energy to ‘Wolf Cries Boy’, driving you through the shadows, smoke, firelight and voodoo whispers. It makes you headbang until the world spins and you see drug dealing devils dancing in your brain. The spell never breaks as the album unfurls; heavy metal bombast and desert rock dreams laughing in the face of doom. ‘Catelyn’s Broken Hope’ is a highlight amongst an array of peaks – an unstoppable battering ram shot through with a deep, melancholic rumble, with a killer chorus and a starburst of firework lead. When the end arrives with ‘Rubicon River’ you realise that while you were lost in the haze Witch Piss were carrying you past the point of no return…and now there’s no way back. But then who wants to come back from a trip like this?

Recorded live in the studio at Motormusic Recording Studios and produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Chiaran Verheyden, who also brought the Witch Piss EP to doomed, stoned and devastating life, The Devil Doesn’t Burn sounds rich, thick and textured – a lead weight monolith wreathed in smoke and dust. Completed by the distinctive artwork of Luca ‘Solo Macello’ Martinotti (Pentagram, Sahg, Baest etc) The Devil Doesn’t Burn will be released by Ardua Music, on CD and exclusive black vinyl LP, on April 24th. The LP will also be available as a splatter vinyl, only from the band and on marble vinyl from Necktwister Records. Be ready to lose your mind and sell your soul to Witch Piss!
