Canadian doom band YETI ON HORSEBACK is proud to present their video for the song "Drug Addict." The song, which opens their upcoming new album, Traditional Addictions, due out July 24th.

YETI ON HORSEBACK is an all-powerful, roaring musical beast that refuses to be silenced and lives to provide audiences with an alternative perspective on modern metal. Their sound features howling vocals over doom riffs that pierce the heart of formulaic music and pays homage to bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Yob, and the Melvins.

Hailing from London, Ontario, the band exists to fill a void in heavy metal with their seemingly relentless ability to create a sound that is as unique and original as it is deadly and intoxicating. Misanthropic sonic sludge and macabre lyrics are laid over a musical foundation of soul-crushing riffs that flow freely from their dedication to all things heavy. On their 2016 debut album, The Great Dying, Metal Injection crowned YETI ON HORSEBACK as "doom's hope for the future".

Comments vocalist/guitarist R.P. on the band’s epic new single, “‘Drug Addict’ is the perfect opening track: a raw, unrelenting representation of addiction. It bites into the vicious cycle of repetition, mirroring the highs and lows you continuously flow in and out of. With a simple story and clear, concise lyrics – where are my drugs, I need my drugs – the track is filled with Easter eggs and a tip of the hat to one of our favorite bands of all time. This is the feel-bad hit of the Summer.”

“‘Drug Addict’ was primarily R.P.’s lyrics with a few improved studio lines to help send home the message of, ‘I need my drugs.,’” adds vocalist S.S. “This song is the perfect opener: it’s a simple, heavy, and one-dimensional fixation on the mindset of an addict. I thoroughly enjoyed working with layering vocals and creating soundscapes on this song to help make it sound like a drug-fueled freakout.”

Traditional Addictions was recorded with Greg Dawson over the course of four years. The album theme stems from the cycle of trauma and addiction begetting one another throughout modern history. The record flows to and from these themes with each side of the album.

The band comments, “This is easily our best work to date, as a rising tide lifts all ships. It’s a natural progression from our previous work and shows where the band is heading. It’s still the monumentally crushing, heavy, and damning sound of YETI ON HORSEBACK, but with a new, more focused, thick sound and layered vocals. Working with Greg at BWC Studios elevated and challenged us further than we ever could have imagined. There is no replacement for life experience; we can all manipulate technology, but not everyone can shepherd and guide. Greg became a friend, a leader, and a contributor, proving to be the right choice at the right time.”

Traditional Addictions will be available on vinyl and digital formats. Jes Dunn (Ad Astra Tattoo) worked closely with the band to create a field-journal-style art layout that truly coalesces the message of the album into a visual format. The vinyl is 45rpm and 180g, including an art insert to fully immerse the listener in the thematic experience.
