Moving at the intersection of slow-burn dark-rock, full-on intensity, and textural experimentation, Abrasive Trees announced their debut full-length album — a record of luminous detail and encroaching weight, set for release on 29 May via Argonauta Records.

The album stretches beyond the band’s earlier post-punk-esque work into something more immersive and elemental: spectral guitars dissolve into dense, low-end pressure; quiet passages fracture into towering crescendos. There’s a sense of space — where each track is a story unfolding with deliberate, almost cinematic pacing. The subject matter drifts from trauma recovery to energised highs; from facing death alone to responding to our fractured society; ending with a near 11-minute passage of beauty and noise.

Featuring former members of Silver MothQuiet Quiet Band, Rothko and Jo Beth Young’s RISE/Talitha Rise project, Abrasive Trees draw on a shared language of restraint and eruption, shaping material that feels equally suited to close, dimly lit rooms and overwhelming, high-volume/high-ceilinged environments.

Written and recorded by a core trio of Matthew Rochford, Jay Newton and WIll Tyler the album also features cameos from former member Ben Roberts on cello and Gravity Machine singer Yunala Songweaver. It was produced and mixed by Niall Parker of Gravity Machine and mastered by Rothko’s Mark L Beazley.  Live, the tracks have been augmented by new bassist Georgia Swallow, whilst Jess Wooller has provided all the videos for the album.

Now aligned with the Italian doom label, Argonauta, Abrasive Trees extend their reach beyond the UK underground, positioning themselves within a broader current of experimental music.

Matthew Rochford reflects on the release:
“Seeing this album being released feels like a relief, but it carries a quiet sense of creative satisfaction. Everything has somehow aligned to make this imperfectly perfect collection ready. Like all albums, it’s been a journey, but I’m deeply happy with how we’ve conveyed the feelings behind the music and it genuinely feels like we’ve arrived somewhere meaningful with this work.”

Recorded in various secluded studios in Devon, ‘Light Remaining’ will be released Friday 29 May on Argonauta Records. It will be available across all streaming platforms, CD and vinyl formats (via PIAS), including limited edition green vinyl, with an artist exclusive edition via the Abrasive Trees Bandcamp page: https://abrasivetrees.bandcamp.com/album/light-remaining-art...
