A dark fusion of Heavy Post-Prog, 90s Alt & Stoner Power
Berlin’s instrumental power trio SOWA release their long-awaited debut album Gdansk Macabre today—available everywhere now. A brooding collision of heavy post-prog, 90s alt atmosphere, and stoner-driven power, the record marks the band’s most ambitious and cinematic work to date.
Born from the long-running vision of guitarist Alessio Vocale and bassist Marko Dukic, and solidified with drummer 666tin in 2019, SOWA evolved from an improvisational project into a force of crushing riffs, intricate arrangements, and raw, grunge-laced energy. Along the way, new guitarist Stefan Matussek entered the fold, further sharpening the band’s sound.
Recorded in spring 2024, Gdansk Macabre spans 11 dynamic, riff-driven tracks accompanied by a stark monochrome visual world created by Gdansk-based photographer Marta Adaszewska. The album also features guest vocalists for the first time, expanding SOWA’s sonic palette. With bassist David Petersen now stepping in for the next chapter, the band moves forward with renewed momentum.
Self-released digitally and on CD, Gdansk Macabre captures SOWA at their most intense and focused—an uncompromising journey into the heart of their dark, heavy aesthetic.
